Teaching Philosophy

My job as a voice teacher is to work with students to craft a singing technique that is sustainable, authentic, and empowering. This means training vocal coordinations to be accessible on demand, so that the singer can be a storyteller, not a technical automaton.

My studio is a progress driven environment where perfectionism can be set aside to allow for effectual storytelling. Crafting authentic vocal performances requires incorporating the lived experience and world view of the singer. Bring your struggles, bring your joys, bring YOU into the studio so that together we can find effective tools for your expression.

The journey to captivating performance is different for each singer and often there are no shortcuts. However, I find that the journey of exploring and cultivating your voice is one of the most fulfilling aspects of becoming a powerful vocalist. It is my mission to help make the acquisition and habituation of vocal technique exciting, accessible, and repeatable. Equipping my students with the ability to build their own vocal toolbox, and use it successfully outside the studio, is paramount to my teaching.

There are beautiful, masterful vocalists in every genre and each genre presents unique challenges for a singer to navigate. There are shared cross-style vocal truths but being a master of one style does not make you a master of any other. My training in musical theater has equipped me with pedagogical tools to help singers navigate a wide variety of genres, while noting the distinct differences between them. The recipe for vocal success is different for every genre, and each genre of vocal music has unique attributes that can serve all singers. Let’s find the recipe that works for you.
